According to a report from South Korean outlet The Elec, Apple is preparing to adopt OLED displays in its upcoming MacBook Pro models, set for release next year, replacing the current mini-LED panels.
The report states that both the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro OLED screens will be manufactured by Samsung Display, which, at present, is expected to serve as Apple’s sole supplier for these panels.
Compared with mini-LED, OLED technology offers significant advantages — including higher brightness, superior contrast, deeper blacks, improved power efficiency, and extended battery life.
Apple, however, is reportedly working to reduce component costs to keep overall expenses under control. Samsung has already developed new parts for these panels, but if they fail to meet Apple’s stringent requirements, production delays may follow.
As it stands, Samsung aims to begin mass production of the new OLED panels in Q2 2026, with component production commencing in Q1 2026. Prototype units will reportedly be produced later this year at Samsung’s eighth-generation OLED facility.
Initial supply is expected to range between 2–3 million units, but should Apple place sufficient orders, Samsung could ramp up output to as many as 10 million units annually, a volume that would comfortably meet Apple’s projected demand.
That said, consumers will likely need to wait until Q4 2026 to see the first MacBook Pro models equipped with OLED displays. The MacBook Pro is therefore unlikely to appear among Apple’s new product announcements scheduled for next spring.
